Verification Terms
Version 2026-10-26.1 · These terms apply to the paid verification assessment only. Everything else on Yada is covered by our Terms of Service.
Verification is an optional, paid check we run on a specialist business. These terms are what you accept when you tick the box on the application form, and they are what we hold ourselves to when we assess you. Please read them before you pay.
1. Who these terms are with
These terms are an agreement between you - the specialist or business applying - and Yada Gigs Limited, trading as Yada, a New Zealand company.
They apply in addition to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Where these terms and the Terms of Service disagree about verification specifically, these terms apply.
2. What you are paying for
The fee buys an assessment, not a badge. You are paying for the work our team does in checking your documents and confirming who you are. That work happens whether or not we can approve you.
Approval is not guaranteed, and nobody at Yada can promise you a badge before your documents have been read.
Without the badge you can still send offers, message clients and take work. What changes is how many jobs you can respond to: up to 3 in any 24 hours, or up to 25 while your business holds the badge. See what the badge does and does not mean.
3. Who can apply
You can apply if you have a verified email address and an approved specialist account - sole trader or company, either is fine.
The badge belongs to the business, not to the person who owns it. You may hold only one open application at a time.
4. The fee
The fee is shown in full, GST inclusive, on the application form before you pay. Nothing is charged until you continue to checkout.
The fee is a one-off charge, not a subscription. Nothing renews automatically, and we will never charge this card again without you starting a new application.
Payment is handled by Stripe. Yada never receives or stores your card details. A GST tax invoice is issued for every payment and is available under your payments.
We may change the fee at any time. The price you were shown when you started your application is the price that applies to it.
5. Your documents
To assess you we need to see the paperwork behind the business. That normally means:
- Your identity, against government-issued photo ID;
- Your NZBN and company registration, against the Companies Office;
- Any trade licences or certifications you hold (EWRB, LBP, Plumbers Board and similar);
- Your public liability insurance certificate;
- That your contact details and service areas are real and reachable;
You attach these when you apply. If something is missing or unclear we will ask for more, and you upload those from your verification page - please do not email documents to us. The page is the only place we keep them, and the only place we can delete them from when they are no longer needed. Documents are read by our verification team and are not shown to other users of the platform - clients see the outcome of the check, never the paperwork behind it.
How long we keep them, and what we do with them, is set out in our Privacy Policy.
You confirm the documents you give us are genuine, current, and yours to provide. Documents that turn out to be false or altered mean an immediate decline with no refund, and may cost you your account.
6. How we decide
A person reads every application. There are three outcomes:
- Approved - the badge is granted to your business straight away;
- More documents needed - something is missing or unclear, and you have 30 days to send us better documents. This costs nothing extra and does not use up your application;
- Declined - we cannot confirm what we need to confirm. We tell you why.
We aim to decide within a few business days of payment clearing, but we do not promise a turnaround time. An application that stalls because we are waiting on you is not counted against that.
7. Refunds
The assessment fee is not refunded if your application is declined. The work of checking your documents has been done by that point, and that work is what you paid for. This is why the criteria are published in advance and why we come back to you for better documents before declining anything.
You can change your mind until we start. While nobody has begun assessing your documents, you can withdraw your application yourself from your verification page, and the fee is refunded in full. We also delete the documents you sent us. Once a member of our team has picked your application up, that work has started and this no longer applies - the page tells you which position you are in.
We will also refund you where:
- you were charged twice for the same application, or charged in error;
- we are unable to carry out the assessment at all;
- we decide, at our discretion, that a refund is fair in the circumstances.
Refunds go back to the card that paid, through Stripe, and may be partial. A credit note is issued for every refund and appears alongside the original invoice. If the whole fee is refunded, the badge comes off - a partial or goodwill refund does not undo an assessment that was carried out.
Promotional credit that came off the price is never refunded as cash. If you withdraw before assessment starts, it goes back to your balance with the expiry it had. In every other case it has been used.
To ask for a refund in any other circumstance, contact us with your application details.
8. The badge
An approved badge lasts 365 days from the day it is granted, then lapses. We will remind you before it does. Renewing means a fresh assessment and a fresh fee, because the point of the badge is that the checks are recent.
We may remove a badge before it expires if the fee is refunded in full, if the information behind it turns out to be false or out of date, if your account is suspended or banned, or if you stop meeting the criteria you were checked against.
The badge is not transferable. It belongs to the business that was assessed and does not move with the person to another business.
9. What the badge does not mean
Verification confirms who you are. It says nothing about the quality, price or outcome of your work, and it does not make Yada a party to any job you take. The full list is on the Verified specialists page, and we hold ourselves to describing it that way in our own marketing.
10. Business use and the Consumer Guarantees Act
Verification is sold to you for the purposes of your business. You agree that you acquire it in trade, and that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply, as permitted by section 43(2) of that Act. You also agree that sections 9, 12A and 13 of the Fair Trading Act 1986 do not apply, to the extent permitted by section 5D of that Act, and that it is fair and reasonable for both of us to agree this.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that cannot be excluded by law.
11. Our liability
Where we are liable to you in connection with verification, our total liability is limited to the fee you paid for the assessment in question. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost work or lost income, arising from a decision on your application or from the timing of one.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your application is the version published when you accepted it - shown at the top of this page and recorded against your application when you ticked the box.
13. Complaints and governing law
If you are unhappy with a decision or with how your application was handled, tell us - we would rather hear it than not. If we cannot sort it out between us, these terms are governed by New Zealand law and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction.
Questions before you apply? Contact us - there is no rush, and an application you are unsure about is better asked about than paid for.
